Preventative Winter Car Care Tips
In these sub zero temps you car hates to go out in the cold as much as you do. Proper preparation and taking your car in for service before the severe cold and blizzards hit can be crucial. Below are some preventative winter car care tips to help you take care of your car during these frigid temperatures.
Fill your Fluids- Get a winter blend windshield wiper fluid. These have a greater concentration of alcohol and less water so they won’t freeze. Make sure to fill your antifreeze and remember to flush it if you haven’t in a few years.
Check your oil and wipers- This is very important to make sure your car withstands the freezing cold. Wipers need to be kept in great condition so that your visibility is not jeopardized. Winter wipers do a better job with the snow and ice.
Tire Pressure- Correct tire pressure is key for proper handling. A small temperature change can reduce your pressure so make sure to check the optimal tire pressure of your vehicle on the label usually located inside your door frame.
Purchase an emergency kit- A flashlight, first aid kit, flares and battery powered air compressor will prevent a major problem when stuck on side of the road.
Headlights- Your headlights need to be cleared off from snow, ice and if they are fogged up you can try cleaning them with toothpaste.
Gas- Keeping the gas tank at half filled can help prevent a fuel line freeze.
