Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe
An image of a new concept car has just been released as a teaser by BMW. The new luxury coupe is a one-of-a-kind BMW named the Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe by the Italian design house.
While there are no current plans to put this car into production BMW has hinted that there might be a possibility to create such a new coupe off the 7-Series sedan platform. It might make more sense to convert from the 6-Series coupe convertible for an elite 2-door concept car, howver the 6-Series range was just recently updated and chances for any more changes won’t come for many years.
BMW has a complete lineup that, over the course of the year, will comprise of a long line of models, encompassing the 1-Series up to the 7-Series. Hypothetically, there could be opportunity at the top of the range to include an 8-Series.
The 8-Series started its life in the 1990s, sales of the original 8-Series never quite held up to BMW’s hopes. However, the 8-Series created quite the devout following, due to its appealing mixture of graceful styling, business class-like cabin, a range of powerful powertrains, and given the short lifespan, its scarcity.
From two images that were teased by BMW, anyone can see that the Gran Lusso Coupe has a robust side character line that flows into sleek LED taillights. The roof and side windows are markedly lower and more streamlined than the design presently employed on BMW’s current 6-Series coupe, convertible, and Gran Coupe sedan.
Fascinatingly, beneath the hood of the Gran Lusso Coupe lies a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V-12. This is the identical engine used in the 760Li sedan. BMW enthusiasts recall that 8-Series was presented with a V-12 engine, and this option of powertrain fans the flames that the Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe will be a lavish new GT built on 7-Series platform.
