New Designs For The Future
BMW recently partnered with a kit-car builder from Arizona called Local Motors and held a competition for the designers of Local Motors to come up with innovations for BMW to consider when it comes to urban driving.
The winner of the competition received $7500 and a trip to the BMW factory in Munich and one of the entrants, which received some attention, was called “BMW Light My Way”. It is a design which focuses on helping driver, passenger, and environment. The lights you see, in the photo above, which illuminate from the quarter panel and side mirror of the vehicle, give occupants of the car a clear view of how to reach either the car or a specific destination after exiting the car.
The other remarkable idea behind the design is the addition of these lights, on the side of the car, have the goal of decreasing the need for lamps and street lights along our city roadways. Thus, this new design having an effect not only on the safety and well-being of the car occupants, but also having an effect on additional efficiency of street lighting and the urban environment as a whole.
One of the ultimate goals of this design is to have all automobiles to have this system. The culmination of several cars with the technology, and, the lights being motion activated, your city sidewalks are illuminated as people pass the cars, acting as the street lights which are no longer needed. Once the people pass, the lights of the car just passed automatically turn off.
We will continue to update you on these new technology designs and when you have the opportunity come see us at Bill Jacobs BMW, and let’s talk to you some more about the current technologies and innovations of the BMW.
