BMW is partnering with the USBSF (United States Bobsled and Skeleton Federation) and creating, through the latest BMW technology, a two-person bobsled to be used in 2014 in the Sochi Winter Olympic games.
We have referred here the cutting edge materials which are being used for new BMW automobiles such as the new electric hybrid BMW i8, where the efficiency of the vehicle is enhanced by the light weight aluminum used for the car’s exterior. According to dexigner.com, the BMW Efficient Dynamics department, which has the primary responsibility of creating not only cool materials, but optimized aerodynamics for their cars, is also collaborating with USBSF to get them a two-person bobsled which will get them a gold medal in 2014, an award which has eluded the Olympic team since their last gold of 1936.
Part of the design process, which has moved things along at a nice pace, is the willingness of USBSF athletes to work with BMW DesignWorks USA, keeping the dialogue moving forward concerning the challenges of the sport, specific tracks, and the what they think could get a bobsled moving faster. Indications tell us that the BMW team could have something concrete to work with within the next year.
