How Logo Can You Go?
Video: property of BMW
There are many who believe the BMW logo, because the BMW corporation has origins in airplanes, is depicting the rotation of an airplane prop in motion. That is only part of the story.
The first time the logo was used was actually on one of its early motorcycles in 1923, and there is a BMW service manual from 1918 which shows the logo overlaying the spin of airplane props. But the actual origin stems from the recreation of the logo for Rapp Motorenwerke, which was a company that built aircraft engines. The Rapp company eventually came to be known as the BMW company we know today.
The blue and white colors are the official colors of the state of Bavaria, the original location of BMW.
