BMW Showcases i3 and i8 at Tokyo Marathon
The recently held Tokyo Marathon was a spectacular event for several reasons. First of all, records were broken by some extremely talented runners.
But more importantly, to us anyway, is the news that BMW’s i3 and i8 were wisely incorporated in the proceedings as pace vehicles. BMW, as a committed supporter of World Marathons, was a key sponsor for the event. We here at Bill Jacobs BMW couldn’t be more excited that BMW’s hybrid vehicles were featured in such a special way. The BMW i8 was used as a pace car and the BMW i3 was used as a support car. To the amusement of the racers and the spectators, these sports cars were looking quite attractive on the track. Leading the pack of racers in this year’s staging of the Tokyo Marathon was Dickson Chumba from Kenya. He won the race on a record time of 2 hours, 5 minutes and 42 seconds. The professional track star also broke his personal best by 4 seconds. That is incredible!
He was followed by Tadese Tola from Ethiopia, who finished in 2 hours, 5 minutes and 57 seconds. On the female side, the leading woman was Tirif Tsegaye from Ethiopia who completed the race in 2 hours, 22 minutes and 22 seconds. She was followed by another Ethiopian, Berhane Dibaba who crossed the finish line at 2 hours 22 minutes and 30 seconds after the race started.
The BMW i8 and i3 kept pace with the racers who gained in speed on the homestretch. It was impressive to see the company use this opportunity to promote its latest sports cars. BMW looks to also sponsor the Berlin Marathon as it continues a world-wide tour of the new hybrid vehicles. BMW continues to impress consumers and is dedicated to offering only the best in luxury driving machines.
Additionally, as a performance-oriented automotive brand, the excitement of a marathon race suitably matches its profile. One automotive writer said that BMW is ingenious in its product placement and marketing. We couldn’t agree more. Indeed, the German-based automotive company seeks to make well-calculated marketing moves.
