BMW i3 One Year Celebration
May 10th marks the one-year anniversary of the first BMW i3 to be delivered to a customer in the US.
With its visionary design, the BMW i3 defines the automobile of tomorrow. It’s not only locally emission-free, but also offers an incomparable and nearly silent driving experience.
Electric vehicles are not necessarily elements of the future. Surprisingly, many automotive engineers have been exploring the viability of electric energy as alternative power for vehicles. There is the growing concern that toxic fumes from gas-powered vehicles will contribute to the demise of the environment and by large, mankind. However, when we imagine the typical scientist developing an electrically-powered vehicle, the first thought is that it will be far from attractive.
Luckily, this is not the case for the BMW i3, which has sprung rousing support from several sectors of the industry. The design of this extraordinary electric vehicle mimics that of a regular sports car. Being environmentally-conscious and ecologically-sound does not have to be boring.
Additionally, the BMW i3 is quite popular in the US market because unlike the typical electric vehicle that shut downs when it is out of charge, a second-life application in the form of a lithium battery chips in to further the journey.
The BMW i3 was designed from a blank slate as noted by Head of Electric Vehicle Operations and Strategy for BMW North America, Jacob Harb. He said that the creators honestly started from ground up with the production of the i3 and i8 cars to ensure that these models would last for the next 100 years.
With a light-weight body structure made primarily from carbon fiber and the use of recycled plastic material, the BMW i3 will enjoy a lengthy period of relevance in the market. Electrically-operated vehicles should be the products of innovation and sustainability and certainly the BMW i3 EV embodies these attributes.
