BMW Awarded Best Safety & Security Solution
During the 2013 Telematics Update Awards in Detroit, BMW earned “Best Safety & Security Solution.” It was recently announced that the BMW AssistTM eCall with upgraded Automatic Collision Notification and Teleservice will come standard on most 2014 model BMWs with 10 years of service included.
While the BMW Assist has been in use in America since 1997, beginning with the 2014 model year, BMW Assist will be standard on nearly every model. The Automatic Collision Notification, which includes the innovative Urgency Algorithm, was created with assistance from the William Lehman Injury Research Center in Miami. Not only will the information include the vehicle’s exact position and direction of travel, but will also include the details of the vehicle model and all the data collected by the sensors in the car are relayed to the call center as well.
This information that is collected will give signs as to the type and severity of the collision, while the deployment of the car’s air bag systems gives an indication to the quantity of people injured and allows frontal, rear, side or even multiple collisions to be identified and discerned.
The Urgency Algorithm conveys the probability of serious injury. Once the data is received, the call center can make an informed decision what kinds and how many emergency serices are required. Furthermore, the data can help the first responders to alert the right medicl care provider of those involved in the accident, even before they arrive at the scene. To comfort the vehicle’s occupants, the call center will remain in contact, speaking in native language as permitted. The device is automatically triggered in an accident, but can also be activated by the driver or front passenger.
TeleService reaches out to the driver if and when maintenance is needed. Gone are the days of getting the vehicle serviced every three months, because the intelligent maintenance system, Condition Based Service, continuously monitors the vehicle’s service needs. When necessary, the vehicle communicates service-relevant data to the Bill Jacobs BMW Service Center by making an Automatic BMW TeleService Call.
